  • Born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Benjamin Abras is an artist with many paths within the arts. Dancer, poet, writer, painter, actor in both theatre and cinema and performer committed to linking the territories of his African culture inherited from the diaspora to contemporary art and interdisciplinary projects. Active within Afro-Brazilian traditions, he introduces these philosophies into his works, inviting people to rethink the global from the local context of the human being. Among other places in the world, he has performed at the 11th Dak'art Biennale (2014), the Sufi Sutra Festival (2015 and 2016) and at the Delphina Foundation residence Performance is a Process (2015).

The voice is the basis of our presence as subjects. In the materiality of its tact, its irradiation generates the presence of our body within other bodies. The voice is one of the ways of providing a presentiment to our political poetic relationships in this world. Making the voice a tool for unveiling our body politic is one of the paths chosen by Benjamin Abras. In the workshop The Voice of the Voice in the Voice Benjamin offers a powerful release of energy from the voice of each participant in order to evoke in their unlocked body the consciousness of this body as a geo-poetic and geo-political territory. The invitation is open to younger and older artists, to students, non-artists, amateur musicians, and people with disabilities who want to experience an experimental creation of a contemporary performance. The experiment proposes the discovery of voices as messengers of the socio-political silences that oppress us in the contemporary world.
