  • Independência brings to light untold events and silent figures from an anti-colonialist struggle. Based on extensive documentary footage, the film features hundreds of interviews with frontline fighters, political prisoners and members of the resistance movement. Between 1961 and 1974, the war in Angola spread across the country, involving both guerrilla fighters and those who supported them. Portugal used a combination of military operations and economic and legal reforms to prolong a war it could never win.
